Wir befinden uns aktuell in einer Umschwungphase was PC-Hardware-Standards anbelangt. Neben BTX und DDR2 ist da vor allem PCIe als Neuling zu erwähnen. Möchte man aktuell sein System step-by-step mit neuen Komponenten bestücken, steckt Ottonormalo mit chronischem Geldmangel in einer Zwickmühle: Investiert man erneut in "alte" Produkte, so verliert man die Gewissheit, auch Zukünftig noch problemlos weiter aufrüsten zu können. Vertraut man sich den neuen Standards an, so wird häufig ein kompletter Hardwarewechsel nötig sein.

Besonders hart trifft dieser Fakt all jene, die sich jüngst eine teure AGP Grafikkarte geleistet haben und nun vor einem Plattformwechsel mit PCI-Express stehen. Der Verkauf der AGP-Karte und der Griff zum PCIe Pendant ist meist eine kostspielige Angelegenheit, die sich nicht jeder leisten kann und will. Dies dürfte wohl einer der Gründe sein, warum der Wechsel zur PCIe Plattform derart schleppend voran geht.

Albatron möchte nun die Lösung für die oben beschriebene Wechsel-Problematik gefunden haben. Mit der ATOP (AGP to PCIe) Zusatzkarte ermöglicht man Besitzern von AGP8x Grafikkarten den Betrieb auf PCIe-Motherboards. Das Prinzip ist dabei denkbar einfach: Man entfernt die serienmäßige Slotblende des AGP-Beschleunigers und ersetzt sie durch das Modell der ATOP. Die Albatronkarte wird in den PCIe Steckplatz der Hauptplatine, die AGP Grafikkarte auf die ATOP gesteckt. Mit der Installation des entsprechenden Treibers hat man das Unterfangen abgeschlossen.

Über Preise und Verfügbarkeit ist derzeit leider noch nichts bekannt.

The "ATOP"(AGP-To-PCIe) bridge card will allow a user to use their existing AGP-8x VGA card in a mainboard designed for PCI-Express resulting in considerable savings in upgrade expenditures.

Your AGP-8x card simply piggybacks on the ATOP card's AGP-8x slot located on the top edge. The ATOP card is then plugged into the mainboard's PCI-Express slot. The only other installation requirements are replacing the bracket on the AGP-8x card with an ATOP bracket and installing the appropriate driver.
The ATOP bridge is the perfect solution for cost conscious users caught in the middle of the PCI-Express, AGP-8x transition. With the ATOP, you can have the best of both worlds in addition to reducing expenditures and extending the life of your original investments.
